Meet the TNT Volleyball Team Coaches

Director/Coach Barb Clark

Co-Founder of TNT Volleyball in 1995

Currently, Coach Clark is the Chief Operating Officer of TNT Volleyball, Inc. as well as a teacher of semi-private volleyball lessons and Skills Clinics for TNT VBC.

Her extensive coaching background spans 37 years. She currently coaches several boys TNT Club teams at the same time.

Some other coaching experiences Coach Clark has had besides running TNT Volleyball have been: Carthage College JV Women’s coach in ‘09, ‘10, ‘11; Freshmen A Girls Volleyball Coach at Libertyville HS ’04, ’05, ’06 and ’07; Freshmen A & B Boys Volleyball Coach at Libertyville HS in Spring ’05.

Summer Camp Coach and Co-Director of the Carthage College summer volleyball camps ’05 thru Present.

Clark was Head Coach of Varsity Girls and Boys at Deerfield HS ’01-’03 and was named the Pioneer Press “Coach of the Year” 2001.

Head Girls Coach at Lake Zurich HS ’95 & ’96. Girls Asst. Coach at Stevenson HS ’93 &’94. Boys Freshmen A Volleyball Coach at Glenbrook South HS ’91–’96. Clark has coached volleyball clubs and summer camps in Southern California; Seattle, WA; Michigan and Illinois since 1981.

As a player, Clark earned a scholarship to play for D-I Southern Illinois University-Carbondale (‘79-‘83), and was named All-State setter her junior year. She continued playing, after graduating with a Bachelor’s in Marketing from SIU-C (’84), capturing 2nd team All-American honors at the USA Volleyball Nationals (’93). She received her Secondary Teaching Certificate in 2001 to teach HS Business, Health and Physical Education. Also, is USAV IMPACT Certified.

Barb graduated from Waukegan East High School in 1979.

Coach Leanne Ulmer

Co-Founder of TNT Volleyball in 1995

Coach Ulmer begins her 18th season as the head women’s volleyball coach at Carthage College in 2018 (500-155), 17 seasons plus the state of 2018—hitting the milestone of 500 WINS at Carthage on 9/22/18!). She has a .768 winning percentage through the 2017 season! She also begins her 17th year as senior woman administrator in the Carthage Athletic Department.

Her teams had an unprecedented conference win streak of 49 conference wins through 2010!! That was 6 years in a row as Conference Champs!! Their overall record for 2011 was 34-7 & 6-1 in Conference, 1st in CCIW, NCAA Regional Champs, and their first ever trip to the NCAA Final Four!!! In 2015 the Lady Reds, AGAIN, were in the NCAA Final Four when our TNT Coach Karen Chin was the setter!!! The 2015 overall record was 35-8; 7-0 Conference!!

Ulmer is ranked 1st all-time at Carthage in career wins (500 +) and 1st in winning percentage (.769).

Ulmer was named College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin (CCIW) "Volleyball Coach of the Year" EIGHT TIMES: 2002, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2014 and 2015…as well
as American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Midwest Regional “Coach of the Year” in 2006, 2007 and AGAIN in 2014!!!

A native of San Bernardino, CA, she served as head girl’s volleyball coach at Stevenson High School from 1993-2000 (227-75-2, 8 years) and the boy’s volleyball coach from 1997-2000 (99-13, 4 years). Ulmer had eight-consecutive 20-win seasons in girls’ volleyball and four 30-win campaigns, with three conference championships, five regional titles and two sectional championships.

Her 2000 boy’s team finished SECOND in the Illinois High School Association championship after winning league, regional and sectional titles.

Ulmer has served for four years on the NCAA Division III Midwest Region Championship Committee.

Since 1995, she has been the co-director of TNT Volleyball, Inc. in Buffalo Grove, IL. She helps with the boy's teams and coaches our TNT Girls. Also is USAV IMPACT Certified.

Ulmer received her bachelor’s in social relations from California-Riverside in 1979, where she played volleyball, basketball and softball.

Her 1979 volleyball team won the Association of Intercollegiate Athletics for Women (AIAW) National Championship, and Ulmer was inducted into that school’s athletic Hall of Fame in 1986. Then in 1994, Ulmer was inducted into her high school’s Hall of Fame, San Gorgonio HS.

Following a brief playing career in 1979 with the New York Stars of the Women’s Professional Basketball League, Ulmer returned to California-Riverside in 1981 as an assistant women’s basketball coach before becoming head coach for both girl’s volleyball and girl’s basketball at San Bernardino’s San Gorgonio High School from 1982-84. She also played on the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) mini-tour from 1989-91.

Coach Lukasz Janowicz - Boys 18’s Coach

('07-'08 thru '16-'17, full time) ('17-'18 to Present, part-time)

Coach Janowicz, originally from Poland, came to USA in 2006, and currently lives in Mundelein. This is Coach Janowicz’s 11th year with TNT. He graduated in 2005 from AWF Poznan with a Master’s Degree in Physical Education; Specializing in Volleyball Coaching. He is also USAV IMPACT certified.

At the age of 10, Lukasz started his journey as a volleyball player. He played in many high league teams as a representative of his Hometown, his State and the University he attended. He also played Beach Volleyball for six years. His professional experience as a coach started in Poland. Lukasz coached FKS Poznan (Club) for 2 years and he worked as an assistant coach for the University level team for one year. He has also played with some of the members of the Polish National Team.

Coach Janowicz and his wife, Monika, have a 16 year old son, Timmy. Coach Janowicz now works for ABT Electronics.

Coach Lukasz has had some very good TNT teams the last few years and has gone
to National Qualifiers winning a Gold Medal in their division once and also taking a team to Minneapolis Nationals in 2011 where they won the final 5 matches of the tournament. Volleyball is not the only sport Lukasz loves. In his free time, he does kite- surfing and in the winter time snowboarding and skiing! Currently, he spends time playing sand volleyball and competes in some very competitive tournaments.

Coach Brian Chin - U14’s & U16’s Coach


Brian Chin

Coach Chin played for TNT VBC his senior year in HS. He is a graduate of Mundelein HS where he was an outside hitter for four years. He spent 4 years at DePaul University in Chicago. Brian played Club Volleyball for DePaul and played in Club College Nationals with them for all four years!!!

This is Brian’s 5th year being an official USAV IMPACT certified Coach. He knows a lot about the game and brings many years of experience with him to our gym. Brian is an excellent role model for the boys. We are very lucky to have him at TNT VBC for a 5th season!!!

Coach Chin will be finishing his degree this Fall and graduating from DePaul in November 2018 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Game Design.

Coach Karen Chin - Assistant Coach ('18-'19)

('16-'17 & '17-'18 full time + Technical Director)

This is Coach Karen’s 3rd year at TNT; sharing her love and passion of the sport of volleyball. In addition, she is our Technical Director and shares her social media skills with us while incorporating her photography skills to get the pictures and videos on Instagram, Facebook and our TNT website.

Currently, her days are full with her job as a Junior Graphic Designer at MAT Holdings, Inc. in Long Grove. She is in the field she studied and is developing her Photography business on the side.

Coach Karen played at TNT VBC for 2 years while in high school. She is a graduate of Mundelein HS where she played all 4 years as a setter. She graduated from Carthage College in May 2016 where she played for Coach Ulmer for 4 years. While at Carthage, Karen earned AVCA Division III First-Team All-America honors for the 2015 season-the year she and her team went to the NCAA D-III Final Four!! She was named Second-Team All-America in 2014.

Karen currently holds Carthage’s all-time career assists record. In addition, she was named CCIW Player of the Year for the second consecutive year in 2015 and was named tournament MVP for the NCAA Tournament Grand Rapids Regional. She was also nominated for the NCAA Woman of the Year. The highlight of her college career was playing in the NCAA Final Four. She graduated from Carthage College majoring in graphic design and minoring in photography. She is USAV IMPACT certified and has previously coached for two years in Wisconsin, while in school.

We are very excited to have Karen’s energy and passion around TNT Volleyball Club.

Coach TJ Korta - Boys 15’s & 18’s Coach

(2018 - Present)

Coach Korta played for TNT VBC his Freshman-Junior year of high school. He graduated from Stevenson High School in 2007 where he played outside hitter for 4 years. TJ graduated from DePaul University with a degree in Business Administration. While at DePaul, TJ was highly involved with the Men’s Club Volleyball Team where he was President/Player Coach for 2 years, including one year finishing 3rd at Men’s Club Collegiate Nationals in Division I-AA.

Coach Korta started coaching Junior Club Volleyball while at DePaul. He coached boys and girls at Energy VBC. He continued coaching USAV juniors at Vortex Volleyball Club for 5 years and each of those years he took his teams to the Boys National Tournament.

In addition to coaching USAV, Coach Korta was also Head Coach at Immaculate Conception St. Joseph in Chicago in 2014. In the school’s first year with a boys’ volleyball program, TJ led the team to a 10-4 season record. This was the school’s first sports program with a winning first season.

Coach Korta brings 6 years of coaching experience and 17 years of playing experience to our TNT gym and he is very excited to share his passion for the game and have the chance to coach the players at TNT VBC. We are very happy to have TJ back at TNT Volleyball where it all began for him!!

Coach Korta is USAV IMPACT Certified.
